See ya, mole!

My severly atypical nevi (AKA bad mole) finally went bye bye forever today. After 6 weeks of waiting (until after the marathon) and one postponement, I had the mole surgically removed. The whole procedure took less than 30 minutes. It didn't hurt at all, but it was as awful as I remember.

The procedure is done under some quick acting local anesthetic. So you don't feel any pain, but you can still kind of feel everything that happens. It was pretty awful feeling the cutting, scraping, tugging, and stitching, but I couldn't feel the pain.  Kind of hard to describe, but think about what it feels like when you get a cavity filled at the dentist when you know what's happening, but it's all numb to you.

Despite it being a mole the size of a pin head, I ended up with 5 stitches and a set of completely sweat soaked clothes. I was shaking so badly that I could hardly sign the receipt at check out. But I was fine. My husband took me home and I worked from home for the rest of the afternoon. The numbing agent started to wear off around 6:30, so that's when I opened the bottle of wine!

I have a round of antibiotics and the stitches come out in 10 days. I'm limited to no bending or stretching my back so that I don't tear out the stitches. My doctor didn't say anything about not running, nor did I ask, so hopefully I'll be out there this weekend.
