I'm supposed to be tapering. While I'm very pleased to only run 10 miles in the heat of the summer, limiting the effort and volume of my workouts is difficult. Most of you will never understand the torture that is the taper. Slacking off sounds fantastic, right? But, after months of hard training, the last thing on your mind is laying on the couch doing nothing.
Battling a cold this week left me at least one workout behind my normal schedule. And it's been bothering me since I missed it. In reality, one missed run a week before my race will have no effect on the big day itself, but mentally, it was weighing on me.
So, after my massage this morning, I hit up the gym to get that pesky run in. Boy did I feel good! I climbed the stairs for 10 minutes, then ran for 3 miles. Not an ache or a pain or a tweak was felt. Best treadmill workout I've had in quite some time. I'm ready for you, San Francisco Marathon!
